The national government is advancing in the launch of the Argentine Proton Therapy Center (CeArP), which has cutting-edge technology to perform innovative cancer treatments, dependent on the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA), whose construction had been paralyzed. by the management of Mauricio Macri. Once the installation of the equipment, which was acquired in 2015 in Belgium, is complete, the Center will provide radiotherapy and proton therapy services, a variant of radiotherapy that uses high-energy proton irradiation with great precision to eliminate tumors, with minimal or no involvement of the surrounding healthy tissues. The CNEA is in charge of the project, construction, and implementation of the scientific undertaking, a pioneer in this field in Latin America, in which Invap, from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), participates, with the collaboration of the Institute of Oncology Ángel H. Roffo. Authorities of the General Audit Office of the Nation, headed by its head, Carlos Montero, visited the establishment, after that control body prepared a report, which was sent to the Anti-Corruption Office, to determine possible management responsibilities and/or or criminal charges motivated by the stoppage of the works, as reported by Sigen in a statement.
