The conflict that broke out in April in Sudan due to clashes between the Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) caused more than two million children to leave their homes, a figure that exceeds the number of displacements recorded in the previous four years. together, Unicef warned.

The United Nations Children's Fund estimates that 1.7 million children are now internally displaced, while more than 470,000 crossed into neighboring countries, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification in Sudan (IPC) report reported.

"We are hearing unimaginable stories of children and families who lost everything and had to see their loved ones die before their eyes. We have said it before, and we say it again: peace is needed for children to survive," claimed the UNICEF representative in Sudan, Mandeep O'Brien.

Every hour, the data rises on average with more than 700 new cases, so the agency believes it is "urgent" to act, the Europa Press news agency reported.

The United Nations (UN) agency estimates that nearly 14 million children need urgent humanitarian aid and food insecurity threatens to worsen for 10 million children, according to the most recent studies published for September.

The risk derived from the rainy season also increases, both due to the direct destruction of homes and by generating a perfect breeding ground for the spread of new diseases.

Currently, more than 9.4 million children lack access to safe water in Sudan and 3.4 million children under 5 years of age are at high risk of contracting diarrheal diseases and cholera.
